CHAIR, SAMPAS INC. - INTELLIGENT CITIES

Karakaya graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Economics – Finance in 1974. During the years 1975 and 1976, he pursued a postgraduate study in Institute of Business Economy. He founded Sampaş Information and Communication Systems Inc. in 1981. Karakaya ensured Sampaş as the first keyturn solution provider firm in Turkey that aims software, education, service and support activities and costumer satisfaction outside of the hardware sales. Starting from the third year of its foundation, he worked for Sampaş to focus on “Local Authorities” sector and by traveling all provinces in Turkey between 1984-1994, he provided computers for more than 1,000 municipalities in Turkey. Şekip Karakaya, with a transformation that he began within Sampaş, established “Intelligent City Automation Project” (AKOS) which has become a trademark in Europe at the moment. He won more than 35 awards in and outside the country with AKOS project in the last four years. Currently, he is the Head of Board of Directors of Sampaş Information and Communication Systems Inc. and head of Smart Cities Platform in Turkey.
