AZİZ KOCAOĞLU

MAYOR OF İZMİR METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY

He graduated from the Faculty of Economics of Ege University in 1973. Mr. Aziz Kocaoglu earned his master’s degree in Business Administration from Istanbul University in 1974. Between the years of 1975 and 1978, he worked as an accounting specialist at a public corporation. He worked as an administrator in private sector between 1978 and 1979. He started his own business in 1979. Having entered into a joint venture in 1986, Mr. Kocaoglu started to work in the area of soil industry. Having started his political career in the Youth Branches of CHP (Republican People’s Party), Kocaoglu served as a Vice President of CHP’s Bornova District Organization between the years of 2001 and 2003. In the local elections that were realized on March 28, 2004, Kocaoglu was elected as the Mayor of Bornova District Municipality. Thereafter Kocaoğlu was accepted unanimously to be the Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality during the Municipal Council Meeting which was held on 21 June 2004. Kocaoğlu achieved to be the first to serve as the Mayor of Metropolitan Municipality three times in succession thanks to the vote of confidence he received from the citizens of İzmir in the local elections that were realized on March 29, 2009 and March 30, 2014.
